Ethical Fundraising

Why CAEP needs to raise funds?

CAEP aims to inspire positive change through action. We improve the welfare of animals in captivity by providing them with a range of plants and minerals from their natural habitats. To achieve our goals, we need funds. We will share our vision, goals and methods with our donors and supporters to ensure a clear and transparent process.

Funds do not drive our work; they drive our ability to deliver high-quality materials to animals in captivity. By donating to our cause, our supporters are taking real action to improve the well-being of captive animals.

Our fundraising regulations

CAEP strives for ethical, honest and transparent fundraising initiatives. These activities adhere to the relevant South African laws and regulations, including those related to privacy and data protection policies. We respect your right to privacy and the right to decide how and if we can contact you.

We treat donors equally and fairly, regardless of unique circumstances or how much you contribute. Our staff and volunteers are required to know this fundraising policy and adhere to the principles outlined within it.

Where we seek funds from

  • We aim to generate income from donations from a range of sources. This ensures we are a sustainable organisation that does not rely on a single source of funding.
  • We accept donations from companies, trusts, foundations, commercial entities, unions and individuals, so long as they do not compromise our mission, independence and credibility.
  • We only accept donations from governments for projects that educate people and communities to improve the welfare of captive animals.
  • We will not solicit or accept gifts from individuals, companies or governments that might use their donations to deflect criticism around animal welfare issues.
  • All donations will be screened against a set of ethical guidelines in accordance with our fundraising procedures. Large donations and inheritances from individuals will also be screened prior to acceptance.
  • We reserve the right to turn down any donations and funding offers, with an explanation as to why. We only accept lawful and ethical donations.
